Governor Andrew Cuomo has vetoed a bill that would have allowed farmers to gain a tax credit for donating food to food banks within New York State. The bill would have allowed farmers to receive a tax credit of up to $5,000, for 25% of the cost of food donated directly to food banks. The goal of the bill was to both help lower taxes for farmers while also increasing food donations to food pantries throughout the state. Governor Cuomo says that the reason he vetoed the bill was because it was both vague, and because programs are already in place to give farmers tax breaks. The sponsor of the bill, a Senator from Monroe County says that he plans to push it again next year.
