One local animal shelter is taking in displaced dogs in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew. The Animal Care Sanctuary in East Smithfield sent two vans to Maryland late last week to pick up 11 dogs who, for one reason or another, are now homeless. The animals were transported to Maryland by the Humane Society of the United States from South Carolina. The dogs have since undergone a veterinary examination.
