A local elementary school teacher is recognized as a hometown hero. Kate Luke is a teacher at Benjamin Franklin Elementary. During halftime of the Binghamton University/Vermont basketball game Sunday afternoon, she was named the winner of the Dunkin’ Donuts Hometown Hero Contest after being nominated by two former students. The prize honors a local educator every year with a year’s worth of coffee. Luke has been working at Benjamin Franklin for more than a decade. She said she loves her job at the school and calls her students her motivation. The Hometown Hero contest has been around for three years.
