A New York State Trooper was shot and killed by an active duty soldier during a domestic dispute last night in Jefferson County. Trooper Joel Davis was shot and killed by 32-year-old Justin Walters while approaching the man’s house last night in the Village of Theresa, which is located about 30 minutes north of Watertown. Walters is now in custody after surrendering to other members of the state police. The active duty infantryman is stationed at nearby Fort Drum. Trooper Davis was 36 years old and has been a member of the State Police for the last four years. He is survived by a wife and three children. Gov. Andrew Cuomo released a statement expressing his condolences and asking New Yorkers to pray for Davis’ family, friends, and coworkers.
