The New York State Public High School Athletic Association has named Owego Free Academy a School of Excellence after more than 75 percent of the school’s varsity teams qualified for the Scholar-Athlete award this year. OFA is one of only 47 schools across the New York state to receive the honor. To qualify for the Scholar-Athlete award, teams must have 75 percent of their student-athletes achieve a grade point average of 90 or above. A total of 220 OFA students competed on at least one of the school’s 22 varsity sports this year. All together, the student-athletes averaged a GPA of 92.4.
