The Oneonta police officer accused of police brutality during an arrest is speaking out.
Michael Breen is accused of using excessive force against Bradford Shanks in January of this year. Breen has hired an attorney and says the claims that Shanks is making against him are untrue.
Breen’s attorney says his client has been unfairly targeted.
“I’m going to be his voice in the process of addressing his situation. Several public officials in Oneonta including Mr. Shanks have been denigrating Mr. Breen in the newspaper and he has not had a chance to respond. From here on out anytime there is comment made he will respond and do so in a direct and substantial way,” said Elmer Keach III, attorney of Michael Breen.
Breen is currently on paid leave from the police department. His attorney says in the future, his client plans to make a civil claim against the City of Oneonta.
