Price Chopper has been penalized by the state for deceptive and misleading advertising. New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman reached an agreement with the grocery store chain to not only change the way it advertises and promotes its coupons, but the company will also pay a $100,000 penalty. The agreement, which is the result of an investigation by the Schneiderman’s office, came following complaints about misleading coupons issued by Price Chopper that failed to disclose restrictions. In particular, the investigation revealed that Price Chopper advertised that it accepted double coupons at its store locations without disclosing certain conditions which restricted the money actually saved by the consumer. Under the terms of the agreement announced today, Price Chopper is required to clearly and conspicuously disclose any face value limits on coupon redemption. The $100,000 Price Chopper will pay is to cover civil penalties as well as costs to the State.
