As the temperatures are expected to extremely low through today, the Red Cross has a number of tips for staying safe and warm. If you’re out shoveling snow, be sure to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks as the work in the bitter cold can be strenuous. Seek medical attention if you experience any signs of hypothermia, including confusion, dizziness, exhaustion, or severe shivering. Be aware of frostbite symptoms, including numbness and skin discoloration. All pets should stay indoors in these temperatures, or make sure they have a heavy shelter if they are unable to come indoors. They also suggest keeping your water trickling to help prevent frozen pipes.
