Wednesday’s snowfall across the northeast caused Governor Cuomo to call a state of emergency for all of New York, and several local businesses and institutions had to close their doors due to the bad weather. Snowfall began to taper off locally in the early afternoon, but total accumulations were over 12 inches in spots right here in the Southern Tier. Cuomo’s State of Emergency allows for state plows to plow non-state roads, as the Department of Transportation continues to work to keep the roadways free of snow and slush. Motorists should still use extreme caution even as the snowfall decreases, as the roads remain slippery and the temperatures stay below freezing, making black ice a possibility in the area.
