The State DEC says good progress is being made in the TCE pollution cleanup efforts surrounding the IBM site in Endicott.  At a public to bring people up to speed, a DEC official said the on-site plume has shrunk considerably since cleanup efforts began about seven years ago. Within the next few years, homeowners in the area may be able to turn off their vapor intrusion systems.
The DEC says the jobs only gets harder when there is less contamination to root out and cautions the job is still far from over.
By 2014, the DEC hopes to have at least 80 percent of the contamination cleaned up.
