Arnot Ogden Medical Center’s initiative to make Elmira a healthier place to live is now underway. The “Creating Healthy Places” project is a five year effort to upgrade parks and promote better living. McKinnon Park is one of the first places to get a face lift.
The old and rusted playground equipment has been removed and installation of new equipment should begin next week.  Project leaders are also aiming to get people to eat better. They’ve even gotten some restaurants on board and are exploring new ways of encouraging healthier eating habits.
The project is being funded by an $800,000 grant from the New York State Department of Health.
The city is planning to have a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new look McKinnon Park in the next few weeks.
