Senator Gillibrand has recently announced new legislation that aims to prevent college campus sexual violence. The legislation is called “The Campus Safety and Accountability Act,” and has several requirements colleges must follow or face a 1% deduction in their total operations budget. The act requires colleges to have students take a yearly anonymous survey about sexual violence, and post the results of the survey online. Other provisions require college personnel take new training in dealing with sexual violence on campus. All colleges will be required to handle sexual assault cases in a uniform manner with proper disciplinary actions.
