Fourth and fifth graders raised $8,800 this year; the school is to receive a CPR Kit on June 5

APALACHIN, NY – June 3, 2026 – Apalachin Elementary School (AES) fourth and fifth-grade students, families, and staff have once again proven the power of a dedicated community, raising an incredible $8,800 for the American Heart Association (AHA) during the 2026 Heart Challenge.

This year’s spectacular effort pushes the school’s lifetime fundraising total to an astounding $205,100 since AES first launched the event in 1993.

Throughout February, AES students engaged in a comprehensive heart-health curriculum, learning about proper nutrition, the importance of daily exercise, hands-only CPR, and the value of civic contribution. The campaign culminated in the school’s high-energy, annual 90-minute jump-rope event. Teams of six students showcased impressive footwork, creative tricks, and serious endurance, with several students even outlasting AES staff members in the popular “jump-off” competitions.

To honor the school’s extraordinary dedication, representatives from the American Heart Association will visit Apalachin Elementary on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. to present the school with an official CPR Kit. The kit is generously sponsored by GHS Federal Credit Union, which will also be on-site, providing special goodies to celebrate the students’ hard work.
