A Broome County corrections officer has resigned and faces charges after an investigation into tobacco brought into the county correctional facility, according to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said the officer admitted providing tobacco to an incarcerated person. The agency had begun its termination process before the officer voluntarily resigned.

The case was announced Friday, Oct. 2. The sheriff’s office lists it among its 2026 news releases and reminds the public that criminal charges are accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

The investigation concerns alleged conduct inside the Broome County Correctional Facility. Tobacco is prohibited contraband in the facility, and the case remains pending in the court system.
