The Broome County Legislature approved the purchase and demolition of the former Vestal Nursing Center.
In an 8-6 vote, the legislature approved $825,000 for the project. The former nursing center has sat empty since the flood of 2011.
Lawmakers approved an amendment ensuring the money would come from hotel occupancy tax funds and not local property tax dollars.
County officials have said the total cost of the project could reach about $1.4 million dollars, which will also come from state and federal funding sources.
