The Broome County Sheriff’s Office and local officials have said the salmonella outbreak at the Broome County Jail is nearing its end.
The outbreak was first reported on May 27th. More than 300 inmates at the jail got salmonella from chicken salad served in the facility’s cafeteria.
Jail officials now say only 36 inmates are still dealing with the infection.
Throughout the incident, 12 inmates were hospitalized due to salmonella.
The outbreak is still under investigation.
