The long-anticipated “honor flight” took place over the weekend. About 75 local veterans were taken aboard a plane from the Greater Binghamton Airport and flown to Washington D.C. courtesy of Tioga Downs owner Jeff Gural. While in D.C. for the afternoon, visits were made to all of the war memorials. On the return flight home, veterans were surprised with a “mail call” during which they were presented with over 500 letters thanking them for their service. Letters were gathered from as far away as North Carolina. And upon arrival at the Binghamton airport, the veterans were welcomed home by two hundred people showing their support and gratitude. Gural says he’s looking forward to possibly hosting another honor flight in the future.
