A fire damaged a mobile home in the Town of Barker this morning. Nobody was home at 4 Jackson Heights when the fire was first reported just before 8 o’clock this morning. Firefighters were able to contain and knock down the small kitchen fire shortly after arriving on the scene, and they were also able to save two dogs from the residence. The dogs were having difficulty breathing and were given medical care at the scene. According to fire officials, the mobile home suffered extensive smoke damage throughout. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, as fire officials were unable to pinpoint exactly where in the kitchen the fire began. Departments from Chenango, Choconut Center, and Whitney Point all responded to the scene, along with New York State Police.
