The murder trial for 40-year-old Aaron Powell is set to begin today in Broome County Court. Powell pleaded not guilty last May to one count of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder related to the deaths of his estranged wife, Christina Powell, and her friend Mario Masciarelli. Jury selection for the case took place on Thursday and Friday with over 100 area residents questioned through the process. The trial was originally scheduled to begin in May, but Powell’s attorney asked for additional time so the defense could review further evidence.
