Binghamton Police have announced two arrests from the end of March from their Community Response Team. The first arrest was 37-year-old Rashiem Tompkins of Binghamton. He was charged after officers observed him in the area of Main and Murray Street riding a bicycle on the city sidewalk, a violation of city ordinance. He then fled officers when they tried to stop him, and he was observed by a civilian throwing an object onto the rooftop of the Family Dollar Store at 56 Main Street. Officers were able to recover the object, and it contained 101 bags of suspected heroin. Tompkins was later apprehended and was found to have several hundred dollars in cash on him. The heroin has an estimated street value of over $1,700. He was sent to the Broome County Jail.

The second arrest made by the Community Response Team was of 23-year-old Yvonne Scott of Binghamton. Scott was determined to have connections with Tompkins from the previous arrest earlier in the day, and officers discovered that she was in possession of 71 knotted wraps of crack cocaine. She is now facing charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance, and was arraigned in city court and sent to the Broome County Jail. The knotted wraps had an estimated street value of over $1,200.
