The Binghamton City Council held a meeting last night to hear proposed revisions to a new sound ordinance. Under the new ordinance, two major changes have been made. The first is that the City of Binghamton will be broken into industrial, commercial, and residential zones, each with their own set of noise regulations. The second change being made is that noise ordinance enforcement will now be measured in distance, rather than with a decibel meter. Some supporters of the new sound ordinance have said that it will make noise enforcement easier. Some dissenters to the new ordinance have said that it will drive away some of Binghamton’s youth.
