The Binghamton Police Department will be adding four new officers beginning next month. The officers will be serving in different roles, with two being school resource officers for East and West Middle schools and two others being added to the Community Response Team, which works with residents in troubled neighborhoods. The Binghamton City School District has allocated $100,000 to pay the for the salaries of the two resource officers, while the city will be paying for their benefits. City Council passed the legislation to add the four new officers last week. With the additions, the Binghamton Police Department will have 135 members by the beginning of July.
