According to Binghamton mayor Rich David, police officers in Binghamton will begin carrying a heroin overdose reversal medication while on duty. The medication is a nasal spray that helps facilitate normal breathing and reverse the symptoms of a heroin overdose. Its purpose is to provide short-term relief while the person is transported to a hospital. Officers will undergo training on how to administer the medication over the next few weeks. The police department purchased 25 medication kits, at a cost of about $1,500.
