A private company is currently the sole bidder for Binghamton’s city-owned Greenman Senior Center. After months of debate over the sale of the facility, on Wednesday, city officials opened a $105,000 purchase proposal from Gemini Construction Management LLC. The company plans to invest an additional $500,000 to $675,000 in the Pine Street building to turn it into its general offices. Gemini Construction is headed by Mark Lane, who made a last-minute offer for the building just before the city planned to sell it to Opportunities for Broome, a nonprofit organization, for a price of $75,000. Opportunities for Broome’s offer was rejected back in April of this year, due to the fact that the sale must be approved by 6 of the 7 city council members. The Greenman Senior Center has not been in use since a heating and cooling system failure prompted its closure in November of 2011.
