The city of Binghamton has more than $300,000 to spend in the community and they asked local residents to help them spend it. It’s money coming from the federal Community Development Block Grant and Emergency Solutions Grant programs. The ultimate goal of the funds is to create safer neighborhoods. Binghamton received $365,000 to distribute to programs in the community, but first asked its residents where they thought the money should go. The deadline for submission of these projects is October 9th. The city hopes to have winners by the end of the year so funding can be distributed for 2014.
