One person was killed in a fiery accident near Binghamton this morning. Three tractor-trailers were involved in the crash between exits 3 and 4 on Route 17/Interstate 81 South around 9am. At least one of the tractor-trailers caught fire after the crash. Both sides of the highway were closed so emergency crews could respond, and the northbound lanes reopened around 11am. The southbound lanes, including the Route 17-81 split, are still closed this afternoon as cleanup continues. Traffic is being re-routed through the city of Binghamton. New York State Police are investigating the cause of the crash, but believe it was a chain reaction.
