County officials and the family of Floyd L. Maines, honored the local veteran with a special tribute and by renaming the Broome County arena ‘Floyd L. Maines Veteran Memorial Arena’ yesterday. County Executives and the Maines family held a news conference inside the arena where they unveiled new signs that will be on the outside of the building and a bronze plaque that will be placed inside. Maines was a veteran and the founder of what is now Maines Paper and Food Service, one of the leading food service distributors in the country. The arena is still run by Broome County. But the Maines family will contribute $75,000 annually as part of a five year agreement with the county, which could be extended.
