A former nurse’s aid at a UHS Hospital is accused of taking and forwarding a disturbing a picture of a disabled patient who was in a private area. The incident occurred in 2009, but the woman has just now been charged.
31-year-old Katelyn Baker of Windsor was arraigned in Binghamton City Court on a felony charge of Unlawful Surveillance. Baker pleaded not guilty to the charge Monday and was released. The case will now go to the Broome County District Attorney’s Office to decide how the case will proceed.
UHS Vice president of Community Relations, Christina Boyd says that the incident that occurred two years ago was abhorrent. She added it violated their policies, values and culture of respect. As soon as UHS became aware of the incident an inquiry was conducted and the two employees involved were fired.
The other employee was the one who received the picture from Baker on a cell phone.
