Hit and Run Victim Has Died

Authorities say a Binghamton woman struck in a hit-and-run on Friday has died from her injuries.

According to the Binghamton Police Department, 37-year-old Amie Lewis was hit by a vehicle while crossing Main Street and Murray Street Friday night. She was taken to the hospital with severe head and internal injuries.

The morning after the hit-and-run, officials say someone contacted police and said there was a suspicious vehicle on their street. Investigators identified 45-year old Matthew Wood as a suspect. Wood was arrested Monday after police say he was found at a home on Lake Avenue in Binghamton. He was charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident with injuries.

Binghamton police say they are working with the Broome County District Attorney who will consider upgrading Wood’s current charge.He was arraigned in Binghamton City Court and sent to the Broome County Jail.
