The Midtown Mall complex in Binghamton was evacuated Thursday morning. Fire officials said construction crew members cut a gas line they thought was inactive while working in the basement of the Court Street building. A torch ignited a controlled fire, but crews quickly extinguished the flames as NYSEG shut off the gas. No injuries were reported and people were quickly allowed back into the building. The complex was also the site of a fire back in 2010. It was vacant at the time and undergoing renovations.
