Fire crews put out a basement fire that they believed was fueled by combustibles in the city of Binghamton. Binghamton Fire Department responded to 15 Hancock Street Thursday afternoon, after neighbors saw smoke and called 911. No one was home at the time of the fire, and crews were able to contain the fire to the basement. NYSEG was called to turn off electric and gas because of the damage. Fire officials believe the fire may be connected to combustibles stored too close to a heater. The cause remains under investigation.
