Five people were able to safely escape an early morning fire in Binghamton. Around 5:45 this morning, the Binghamton Fire Department responded to a call at 46 Park Street. Fire chief Daniel Thomas said they had to aggressively attack the fire, which had spread through the two-story home, including up to the roof. According to fire officials, three people were on the roof when firefighters first arrived, and they were rescued off the roof of the front porch, and no serious injuries were reported. The home was significantly damaged, and as late as nine o’clock, firefighters were pouring water into the house through a gaping hole in the roof. The rear of the home was completely burned away. At this time, investigators believe that the fire started in the rear of the home, but the cause remains under investigation.
