One Friendly’s restaurant on the Vestal Parkway and another in Johnson City’s Oakdale Mall are among several of the franchise’s restaurants that will close this week. Three other locations in the Southern Tier, including locations at Front Street in Binghamton, Harry L. Drive in Johnson City, and East Main Street in Endicott, will remain open after being acquired by Friendly’s Ice Cream, LLC. The company will be purchasing 35 franchises across New York State from the Rochester-based Kessler Family for an undisclosed amount of money. The transaction is expected to be finalized Wednesday, with Friendly’s ownership taking effect Thursday. Eight Friendly’s restaurants will be closed in New York State, and all closings will occur on Wednesday.
