Voters in the Vestal School District took to the polls yesterday to approve the creation of a library district, in an effort to help save the Vestal Public Library. After a vote of 1,055 to 189, the library will now receive tax dollars through the Vestal Central School District instead of the Town of Vestal. The Vestal School district includes portions of the Town of Owego and Binghamton. School district residents can expect taxes to rise about $2 a year for every $100,000 of assessed property value.
This would create a budget of about $725,000 for the Vestal Public Library. That money will be distributed by a board of trustees also voted on by Vestal School District residents yesterday. These trustees include: Margaret Hadsell, Sue Nunes, Dannielle Swart, Marianne Taylor, and Peter Ziolkowski
