The Binghamton YWCA has begun receiving residents for its new Bridge Program. The program provides pregnant women, who are addicted to opioids, a place to stay with their soon-to-be born children while they seek rehabilitation. The new program has a total of eight beds available, two of which are already occupied. The women and children are able to stay anywhere from 7 to 17 months as the mother recovers from addiction. In addition to just housing, the Bridge Program also features 24-hour-a-day counseling services. YWCA officials say that the Bridge Program is the first of its kind in New York State.
