Broome County District Attorney Stephen Cornwell has revealed a plan which seeks to help those addicted to drugs. Cornwell announced that his program, called “Operation S.A.F.E.” would encourage those struggling with drug addiction to seek treatment at little to no cost to them. Through Cornwell’s program, addicts can go to any local police agency seeking help. These law enforcement agencies would then redirect those struggling with addiction to one of over 50 drug treatment facilities. The Broome Opioid Abuse Council and Broome County Sheriff’s office are said to be working on a similar program, which has been slated to launch in April.
