As the hydraulic fracturing debate rages on at both the state and local levels, Broome County has announced the launch of a website designed to offer resources related to the fracking industry. The county launched the site on Tuesday after a year of development and research was conducted by the Broome County Executive and Energy Development offices. Broome County Executive Debbie Preston says that the website’s intention is not to serve as a push to promote drilling, rather a resource to answer any of the public’s questions. State officials have been considering whether to allow drilling in New York since 2008. The process is allowed in a number of other states, including Pennsylvania. According to officials in the Energy Development Office, the website cost the county about $6,000 to launch. The site includes information for homeowners about possible contracts with gas companies, a listing of pipelines in the county that are either proposed or already in existence, water and well safety, and other information for residents and businesses. You can find the website at Broome natural gas dot com.
