It’s been two years, since convicted criminal David Sweat escaped from the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora New York, now he’s making headlines again. Recently he was transferred from Five Points Correctional Facility in Ovid, to Attica, and has now gone on a hunger strike to be returned to Five Points. Sweat was on the run for three weeks after his escape until he was recaptured. He was originally serving time for murdering a Broome County Sheriff’s deputy about fifteen years ago. Local State Senator Fred Akshar, who is also the former Undersheriff of Broome County, is not sympathetic. In a written letter published by
Akshar this week, the Senator says Sweat doesn’t deserve an ounce of sympathy or special treatment from the State of New York. The letter was sent to the State Commissioner of Corrections. Akshar goes on to say “if Sweat doesn’t want to eat, then so be it”.
