BAE systems said Monday it will lay off 300 workers, including an unspecified number at its Endicott facility. The defense contractor announced that two-thirds of the layoffs will come from its New Hampshire plant.
The company says the layoffs are necessary due to changing staffing requirements and the overall economic climate for its industry.
BAE officials did not say how many layoffs would take place at its Huron Campus in Endicott, only that it’s one of five BAE sites expected to see a workforce reduction. The others are Wayne, New Jersey; Greenlawn, New York; Manassas, Virginia; and Austin, Texas.
BAE said workers who will be laid off will be notified by March 4th. After its Westover facility was destroyed by the September, 2011 flood, BAE received millions of dollars of state and federal incentives to keep 1300 of its workers in the Southern Tier.
