An Endicott man is dead after being hit in the head by a weight during a warm-up for an indoor track meet at Cornell on Saturday. According to Cornell University, Douglas Koban of Endicott was officiating an indoor large invitational meet at the Barton Hall indoor track on Saturday. Koban was working in the caged area of the track when he was struck in the head by a weight during the warm up for the weight-throwing event. Cornell said he was immediately treated by EMS and athletic trainers on-site and was later taken to Cayuga Medical Center where he was put on life support. Koban died on Sunday. The incident is under investigation by Cornell Police, but officials are ruling the incident as an accident.
