Residents of the Village of Endicott will soon be paying more for their water and sewer use. A state audit released on Wednesday shows tentative budgets for the village’s water and sewer funds are not balanced. Each includes a deficit of more than $200,000. Endicott Mayor John Bertoni said the water rates for the average user will increase by about $2, and sewer rates will rise by about $4. Bertoni said the deficit was caused by continued flood recovery efforts, including repairs to a sewer plant which was badly damaged by September 2011’s flood. He says increasing the rates is the only solution to fixing the current deficit.
