State Police said five people died after a helicopter that took off in the Southern Tier crashed in northeastern Pennsylvania. The Federal Aviation Administration says wreckage from the helicopter was found in a heavily wooded area in the Wyoming County township of Noxen. According to the FAA, the chopper left the Tri-Cities Airport in Endicott Saturday night. The airport manager says he believes that the helicopter stopped in Endicott for fuel. The pilot said he was losing altitude just before air traffic controllers lost contact with the flight, and sent out an alert. Investigators said there were thunderstorms in the region Saturday night. The wreckage wasn’t found until Sunday afternoon. There’s no word on what caused the crash. The names of the victims have not been released yet. The Wyoming County coroner said it appears a man and his daughter, and a man and his son were on the chopper with the pilot. FAA officials said the helicopter was on its way to Jake Arner Memorial Airport in Lehighton when it went down.
