The federal government’s $85 billion in spending cuts may soon be felt close to home. Local defense companies in particular may be severely impacted by the cuts, as half of the $85 billion comes as slashes to military and defense spending. BAE Systems, a defense and security corporation with its national headquarters in Endicott, says the effects of the spending cuts could be devastating. The company stated it could lose about 4,000 jobs nationwide, or roughly 10 percent of its entire workforce. BAE has not said how many of the job cuts would take place in Endicott.
