The fire that destroyed a two-story home in Endicott back in mid-March has been deemed accidental. The fire started in the basement of 113 Roosevelt Avenue back on March 19th, and fire officials are now saying that the fire was caused by combustibles stored too close to a basement furnace. Two residents of the home were able to safely escape, and after close to a month the house remains standing but was completely gutted by the fire. At the time of the fire, firefighters struggled with knocking down the flames due to the heavy amount of clutter in the home, which was filled with high piles of clothing and other items. The roof eventually collapsed after burning for several hours and the house was ruled a total loss. Now officials say the home will be torn down after all insurance issues are settled.
