Several local police agencies worked together to arrest a man who stole a family car and used the credit cards inside Saturday. 33-year-old Case Valashinas, Endwell, was charged with grand larceny. After the Broome County Sheriff’s Office received the report of a stolen vehicle at the Sports Dome on Airport Road, deputies began to track the stolen car. Video surveillance showed a man walking through the parking lot, trying to open doors. Deputies say the man drove the car to Castle Creek, and used stolen credit cards to buy gas. Then he allegedly drove to Whitney Point, and used stolen credit cards to buy pre-paid cell phones. Cortland City police located him in the parking lot of a convenience store. Deputies said he also had several knives, a hypodermic needle and marijuana with him. The man was arraigned in the Town of Fenton Court. He was sent to the Broome County jail without bail. The man was charged with four counts of grand larceny in the 4th degree, grand larceny in the 3rd degree, forgery, and two counts of criminal possession of stolen property. More charges are pending. Deputies report the car he stole was unlocked with the keys in the car and the owner’s wallet. The Sheriff’s office is reminding everyone to keep their cars locked and with the keys removed. They also said to keep valuables out of sight, or not in the car.
