Cleanup is expected to continue through the weekend in hard hit areas of the Southern Tier flooded after another torrential rain storm earlier this week.
Route 17 remains closed between Nichols Exit 62 and Lounsberry Exit 63.DOT has no update on when the road might reopen. The detour has created bumper to bumper, slow moving traffic on the detour that goes directly through the main street in Nichols.
The Spencer Fire Department will collect flood-relief supplies this evening for residents in Nichols whose properties were damaged by the flood. From 6 until 6pm at the first station on North Main Street, firefighters will collected basic supplies including sheets, blankets, pillows, bottled water, canned food, peanut butter and jelly, along with personal hygiene items for men and women.
