A major natural gas shipping company is studying the possibility of installing a 60 mile pipeline which would run through parts of Broome County. Millennium Pipeline Company is considering running an extension pipeline from the Town of Union up to the Syracuse area. The company sent letters to officials in municipalities along its path to notify them of the plans, which are in the early stages. The company’s current pipeline runs nearly 200 miles along the New York Pennsylvania border, and through Broome County as it carries natural gas produced in Pennsylvania portions of the Marcellus Shale eastward to major metropolitan markets. Officials in Union, Maine, Nanitcoke, and Lisle have all received letters notifying them of the possible extension. There is not yet an estimated cost of the proposed pipeline.
