Just in time for the cold weather, Broome County donated dasher boards to the Town of Union for a new outdoor ice skating rink. Monday afternoon, the Town of Union announced its plans to build the outdoor ice rink in Highland Park. The new rink will be a seasonal outdoor natural ice rink over the existing basketball court at the park. The donated dasher boards will surround the perimeter of the new rink. Admission for the rink will be free, and town officials say they plan to have the hills by the rink open for sledding. They also say there could be a concession stand open in the winter. The town hopes to open the new rink by the middle of December.
