We are currently monitoring an ice jam that has formed in the Susquehanna River from the area of Hiawatha Island and extending east into Broome County. According to the Tioga County Office of Emergency Services, Minor flooding occurred last Sunday, January 14th which required assistance from the Campville Fire Department to evacuate one person from their residence on Kinney Rd. in the Town of Owego. Since that time there has been no additional flooding along the river. At the present time there is some uncertainty when the ice will break up and the effect it may have on properties along the river when it does so. People living along the river need to be prepared in the event that flooding occurs and have a safe plan to evacuate. Stay tuned to your hometown station WEBO for updates and breaking news. The National Weather Service in Binghamton expects warmer temperatures on Monday and Tuesday will cause rivers and streams to rise. They have not yet issued a formal flood watch.
