According to the New York State Department of Labor, the greater Binghamton area has seen an increase in jobs. From March to April, the area added nearly 800 new jobs. Officials say increases in job numbers are common in the spring and summer as the weather gets warmer and more positions become available. While the Greater Binghamton area reported fewer people working this April compared to last April, the unemployment rate has dropped from 8.2 percent to 7.8 percent. Across the state, Tompkins County has the lowest unemployment rate at 4.8 percent.
